Getting Started: New Account Timeline

When you sign up for a GreenGeeks hosting account, we will send you a few different email messages at different stages of account creation.

First, you’ll receive a “Thank you” email, because we appreciate your business!

Here are the other emails you will receive, and what you can expect to find in them.

“GreenGeeks Login Details” email
In GreenGeeks, you can open a support ticket, manage most aspects of your account, and access cPanel. cPanel is the key to many aspects of your account, such as setting up email accounts and databases, software installation and configuration, viewing website statistics, and a lot more.

cPanel has a file manager, and you can even publish a simple one-page site as a placeholder until your website is ready.

“New Account Information” email

  • Account Overview (plan type, domain name, billing cycle)
  • FTP login details, to upload your website files
  • Name sever settings (which you’ll need if we did not register a new domain name for you)
  • Email settings

Domain registration email
If we are registering a domain name for you, you will receive this email when the domain has been registered.

Invoice email
Contains the package and price details.

If we registered a new domain name for you

When you receive the domain registration email, your domain name is registered and active. New domain names take a bit of time to propagate throughout the internet. That time period varies for everyone depending on location, ISP, etc.

Typically though, your new domain name should be available within an hour (often sooner, sometimes a bit longer).

If you are using a previously registered domain name

Check the “New Account Information” email for name server information. Your domain will not point to your GreenGeeks account until you update the name servers at the registrar.

If you run into any problems updating the name servers for your domain, contact the registrar or hosting company where you purchased the domain and ask them to update the name server records for you.

  1. Somewhat helpful so I’ll start work on site, not sure which link to click. I guess I’ll muddle through. I guess WordPress setup is in there somewhere.

    1. Hi Denise, WordPress setup is in cPanel (scroll all the way down to the Softaculous section). You can get to cPanel by clicking the “cPanel Login” button in GreenGeeks.
