What is One Tree Planted?
One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization that helps make it easy for both individuals and businesses to plant trees. This is to help the world create a healthier climate, fight climate change, and protect biodiversity in multiple areas.
The organization currently plants trees in four regions. These include North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. It achieves this by pooling all of the donations it collects and having its partners grow saplings.
And since they began in 2014, One Tree Planted has planted over 20 million trees.
The saplings are then planted during the rainy season, in which they are maintained and monitored until they reach maturity. The positive impacts they have on the environment like carbon absorbed, are then collected and shared on site.
Why Planting Trees Matter
Climate change has made the world realize how big an impact humanity has on the earth. Our environments are changing, and not in a good way. Sadly, with this in mind, the deforestation rate is still increasing.
And if the world can’t avoid deforestation, we need to invest in reforestation.
Trees are the backbone of our environment. They house 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity, keep our air clean, filter the water we drink, and even absorb carbon from the atmosphere to fight climate change.
They also have a tremendous amount of social benefits. Trees can be safely farmed and provide lumber, paper, and medicine to our society. As a result, the forestry industry provides an endless amount of job opportunities for the world.
Not to mention recreational activity’s like camping, hiking, and more.
From clearing way for farmland to being ravaged by regular forest fires, the trees on Earth have taken a beating over the decades. And we all can do our part to reduce the damage.
