Google Chrome has come a long way. The browser now has an easy-to-use, built-in adblocker. This allows you to block ads from all or from select websites. However, what if you want to allow ads in Chrome?

There are basically two ways to allow ads in Chrome:

  1. You can allow all ads.
  2. Allow ads on specific sites by whitelisting them.

Note: Remember, ad blocking is only available in Chrome 64 and above. If you don’t see it, please make sure your Chrome browser is up-to-date.

Why Would You Want to Allow Ads on Certain Sites?

There are certain situations in which you might want to whitelist a site or learn how to disable adblock in Chrome. When you disable the ad blocker, it will allow ads to be shown across the browser.

However, you can simply turn off the ad blocker for specific sites and allow them to show ads. You may want to do this for a couple of reasons.

There may be some websites you come across that you want to see relevant and outreaching ads for. So you would want to whitelist these sites. However, perhaps the major reason to turn off the ad blocker for specific sites is that it might be a site for a blogger or a friend. You want to help them, so you make sure adblock is disabled in Chrome for these specific sites.

In fact, some of us disable the adblock feature for charity sites to help show support. After all, a lot of charity organizations and bloggers rely on ad revenue to keep the site running.

Whatever the reason may be for you, here is how you can easily allow ads in Chrome when you want to. Let’s explore both ways.

How to Allow All Ads in Chrome

Launch the Google Chrome browser from your desktop. The Chrome icon looks like a colored ball with a blue dot at the center. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or in your Start menu on Windows.

Once the Chrome browser is open, click the three-dot icon. This icon is located next to the address bar in the upper-right corner of your browser window. It will open a dropdown menu. Go down to the “Settings” option and click on it.

Click on three dot menu then settings

From the Setting’s page, scroll all the way down to the bottom until you see the “Advanced” area. Click on it and a more advanced setting’s option will drop down and be displayed.

Click on advanced tab

Now that the advanced setting’s options are displayed, scroll down until you see “Site Settings.” You will find it near the bottom of the “Privacy & Security” group of options.

This is what you want to click on next.

Click on site settings

You will see quite a few options available to you at this point. Scroll down some until you see the “Ads” tab.

Click on this.

Click ads tab to allow ads in chrome

From this page, you have a couple of simple options.

Chrome ad options

Click on the “Blocked on sites that show intrusive or misleading ads” toggle button to turn it on.

Toggle button on to allow ads in chrome

You have now disabled adblock in Chrome for all sites.

Allow Ads on Specific Website

If you want to allow ads in Chrome for specific websites, the process is pretty simple.

For this, you will need to be on the website that you want Chrome to allow ads. In this demonstration, we are on the GreenGeeks website. However, navigate to the site of your choice.

You will see that in the navigation bar there will be a “lock” symbol. Click on it.

Click on lock symbol

A dropdown menu will appear. Click on the “Site Settings” option in the dropdown.

Click site settings in the dropdown

Once you are on the setting’s page for the website, scroll down until you see “Ads.” Choose “Allow” in the dropdown menu to the right and you are now able to allow ads in Chrome on this particular website.

Select allow ads in chrome

Do this for any website you want to allows ads to run on.

Final Thoughts

The Google Chrome browser continues to evolve into one of the better browsers available. If you are someone who wants to have total control over ads that run in Chrome, then Turning off the ad blocker for specific websites is for you.

Have you been successful in turning ads on or off for specific sites? Are you using the built-in ad blocker in Chrome or an extension to accomplish this?

The Firefox browser has a vast amount of extensions and add-ons that are available. These extensions, along with some of the built-in Firefox browser choices, make browsing the web when using Firefox a more streamlined and fun experience.

There are a couple of different ways you can install extensions in Firefox, depending on the route you want to go.

Let’s take a look at how to easily install extensions in Firefox.

Install Extensions in Firefox

The main reason you can install Firefox extensions in different ways is because sometimes certain extensions are not available via the in-browser interface. If that is the case, you can still install Firefox extensions manually via the XPI file, which I will go over.

Automatic Extension Installation Using Firefox

Launch the Firefox web browser. Click or double-click the Firefox app icon, which resembles an orange fox around a blue globe. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or in the Start menu in Windows.

Once the browser has launched, you will see a hamburger-style, three-line icon menu on the top right of the Firefox browser. Click on that and a drop down menu will appear.

From this drop down, select “Add-Ons.”

Note: You can also reach the Firefox add-ons page by typing “about:addons” into the Firefox address bar.

Click on the three bar menu in firefox browser then click on add ons

Select the “Get Add-ons” tab located on the top left of the browser add-ons page.

Click on the get add ons tab

On the “Get Add-ons” tab you will see a blue button titled “Find more add-ons.” You will click on this to get to the Firefox add-on page to select any extension you want to install.

Note: On a PC, there will simply be a search bar already on the page for you to search for the extension that you want.

Click on the blue find more add ons button

Once you click on the blue button, you will be on the main Firefox extension page. Search for any Firefox extension that you want to install.

Search for add ons in the search box

When you find the Firefox extension that you want, simply click on the blue “Add to Firefox” button to automatically install extensions in Firefox.

Note: On a PC, just click on the “Install” button located to the right of the extension you choose.

Click on the add to firefox button

Drag and Drop Firefox Extension Installation Using XPI Files

This is a more manual process used to install extensions in Firefox. From the add-on that you want to install via the XPI file, right click on the blue “Add to Firefox” button on a Mac, or the “Install” button on a PC.

In the drop down menu that appears after the right click, select “Save Link As.”

Right click the save to firefox button and then on save link as

When you do this, a popup box will appear asking you to name the file and save it where you want. Choose your save destination and click on “Save” to save the XPI file.

Name your xpi file and save it

Now locate that file and drag and drop it into a Firefox window that you have running. When you do this, you will see a Firefox notification box popup underneath the address bar.

This is letting you know Firefox wants to install the extension and wants you to give final permission. Click on the “Add” button, or the “Install” button on a PC to complete the operation.

Notification popup for firefox extension installation

Now just verify the installation and restart your Firefox browser if necessary.

That’s it! You now have two easy ways you can install extensions in Firefox. Tailor your browsing experience to your liking.

Location settings are an important aspect of the Google Chrome browser. Sometimes you may want to change location settings in Chrome for one reason or another.

The location settings in Chrome, or any other browser for that matter, help with search results. This is especially true when you are searching for something in your area.

That being said, there are a number of reasons you may want to change locations settings in Chrome. Use the simple steps below to do so. Remember, you can also take other steps to increase your privacy in Chrome as well.

Change Location Settings in Chrome

Once the browser is open, search for something you want to find by typing it in the address bar at the top of the page. Press “Enter” after you type your search topic in the address bar.

Type a search selection in the address bar of google chrome

When a list of search results pops up, find the “Settings” tab at the top of the search page and click on it. In the drop down menu that shows, click on the “Search Settings” option.

Note: This will open the entire Search Setting’s page for Google Chrome. Being signed into your actual Google Chrome account will allow you to get more relevant search results.

Click on settings then on search settings

Once on this page, scroll all the way down to the settings for “Region.” You will find it at the bottom of the page.

Select the region that you want to see search results from. If your region is not listed, click on the “Show More” option to view additional areas.

The Firefox browser offers users a streamlined and fun way to browse the Internet. There are all sorts of bells and whistles in the browser. Should you choose to, they also allow a user to change tab settings in Firefox.

The process to change Firefox tab settings is not difficult. It will only take you a couple of minutes, and after that you will have changed the tab settings to the way you prefer.

Let’s take a quick look at how to change tab settings in Firefox.

Change Firefox Tab Settings

Launch the Firefox web browser. Click or double-click the Firefox app icon, which resembles an orange fox around a blue globe. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or in the Start menu in Windows.

Once the browser has launched, you will see a hamburger-style, three-line icon menu on the top right of the Firefox browser. Click on that and a drop down menu will appear.

From this drop down, select “Preferences.” On a PC you will select “Options.”

Note: You should always keep your browser up-to-date. However if you are running an old version of Firefox, then you will select “Tools” in the menu bar. Download the newest version of Firefox now.

Click on the three bar menu and then click on preferences in the firefox browser

Once you have landed on the main Firefox settings page, click on the “General” tab that is located on the left of the browser window.

Click on the general tab in the browser window

At the very top of the “General” section you will see a option for “Tabs.” There will be some selections under the Tabs setting. Let’s take a look at these and what they mean.

Note: You will also see a Firefox “Startup” option. You can select your startup option from there as well. The choice is yours.

The firefox tab settings are here

The options for tabs may vary slightly whether you are using a Mac or a PC, as in the wording may be different, but the task is the same.

You will see the following three options as shown above in the screenshot:

  • Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order
  • Open links in tabs instead of new windows
  • When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately

If you are using a PC, then you may see one extra option that says “Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar.”

Simply check the ones you want to activate and this will change tab settings in Firefox. Close the window and you will be all set.

That’s it. You have successfully changed Firefox tab settings and you are ready to roll with your new setup.

Enjoy!

The library of extensions that the Google Chrome browser has is very extensive. Chrome allows you to add as many extensions as you want. That being said, sometimes it can be difficult to find the page where you can change Chrome extension settings.

From the Chrome extension settings page, you can perform functions like removing current, deactivating or activating your current extensions. You can even view full Chrome extension details.

Older versions of the Chrome browser did not have an easy to access menu link to extensions on their settings page. That has since changed. Now you can access Chrome extension settings two ways.

Let’s take a look at both ways to access the page so that you can change Chrome extension settings when needed.

How to Manage Chrome Extension Settings

Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer. The Chrome icon looks like a colored ball with a blue dot at the center. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or on your Start menu on Windows.

To manage the Chrome Extensions settings:

  1. Launch Google Chrome
  2. Open Customize and Control (top right, three-dot icon)
  3. Open “More Tools” and go to “Extensions”
  4. Manage the available extensions

It’s not that difficult of a process to manage your Chrome extension settings as long as you know where to look.

Let’s dive a bit deeper into the steps.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome on Your Computer

Step 2: Open Customize and Control Settings

This is the three-dot icon on the top right of Google Chrome. It’s located just below the “X” to close the window.

Step 3: Go to “More Tools” and click, “Extensions.”

Click on more tools and then click on extensions

Step 4: Make your Adjustments

From here, you can change extension settings when and how you want. You can view details, remove (delete) extensions and look at full details. You can also search extensions by name in the search bar.

The chrome extensions page

NOTE: You can also open the Chrome Extenions window by going directly to the page using this address in your browser:
[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]chrome://extensions/[/ht_message]

Type in the chrome extensions url in the address bar

Simply close the extensions tab when you are finished. Changes to extensions are made in real-time, so there is no save option available. It’s all automatic and instant.

That’s it! You can now quickly and easily change Chrome extension settings whenever you need to.

It’s Easy to Manage Chrome Extensions

In reality, it only takes a few seconds to change chrome extensions settings. Google makes it incredibly easy to enable, disable, or even remove tools you no longer need.

You can also choose to manage your Chrome Apps from the extension window.

Believe it or not, the Safari browser is still the second most used browser in the world by market share. So, it was alarming when there was a privacy leak via the autofill function a few years back. However, you can easily disable autofill in Safari in a few quick steps.

The privacy leak really affected version 4 and 5 of the Safari browser. That being said, it is a good idea to disable autofill in all versions of Safari, just to be on the safe side.

The privacy leak was basically built around the issue that some malicious and dangerous sites were able to pull personal details like your name, email and address.

Even though the problem was disclosed years ago, the issue may still remain. It’s probably a good idea to take a few minutes to disable autofill in Safari.

After you do this you can take even more precautions by removing adware in Safari.

NOTE: The PC version of Safari lost support back in 2012. This tutorial is for MAC users only.

Disable Autofill in Safari

Launch the Safari browser on your desktop. It’s a blue and white icon with a compass.

Once the Safari browser is running, select “Safari” from the top left menu and in the drop down menu that appears click on “Preferences.”

Click on safari then click on preferences in the safari browser

When you do this a popup box will appear with all of the settings Safari has to offer. Click on the “Autofill” tab at the top of the popup box.

Select the autofill tab and click on it

Once on the autofill tab you will see that all the selections are already checked by default. You want to uncheck the option box that says “Using information from my contacts.”

Uncheck the using information from my contacts box

From there simply click on the red “x” to jump back to the main Safari page browser.

If you want to double-check the box remained unchecked, go ahead and repeat the above steps to open the autofill preference box. You will see that you are good to go.

It is important to disable autofill in Safari, especially until we know that all versions have patched this privacy issue.

The Opera browser offers users a unique and fun experience surfing the web. It delivers plenty of style and privacy functionality. This unique browser also has something called Opera turbo mode, which can accelerate your browsing speed by quite a bit.

By increasing the runtime priority of Opera, turbo mode can really boost speed and make browsing the web even more enjoyable. It is fairly simple to enable turbo mode in Opera.

With a few clicks here and there, you will off and running with a smooth, fast browsing experience.

Let’s take a look at how to enable turbo mode in Opera.

What Was Opera Turbo Mode?

Opera Turbo Mode was a feature that uses Opera’s own servers to compress images so they load faster in the web browser. This means websites had a much faster load time while Opera’s Turbo Mode is enabled.

This feature was removed as of version 59. Instead, the function was replaced with “hardware acceleration.”

Although it’s not the same as the original version of Turbo Mode in Opera, the function does improve browsing experiences in various situations.

Enable Hardware Acceleration in Opera

Although this isn’t technically, “Turbo Mode,” today, I’ll show you how to enable hardware acceleration.

Launch the Opera browser from your desktop. It resembles a red “O” for Opera. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or in your Start menu on Windows. If you don’t have Opera you can download it here.

Once Opera has been launched, click on “Menu” located on the top left of the browser. From the drop down menu, select “Settings.”

You can also use a keyboard shortcut if you prefer to perform this same function. That keyboard shortcut is Alt+P.

Note: If you are on a Mac you would click on “Opera,” then find “Preferences” and click on that.

Click opera then click preferences

Scroll to the bottom of the setting’s page and click on the checkbox that says “Show advanced settings.”

Note: If you are using a Mac from the main Opera setting’s page, you want to scroll all the way down to the bottom until you see a tab called “Advanced.” Click on that to open more advanced settings.

Click on the advanced tab

Once the advanced settings area has been opened, click on the “Browser” tab located on the left side of the window.

Click on the browser tab

Scroll down and check the “Enable Opera Turbo” box.

Opera Turbo Update

The turbo function from Opera was removed several versions ago. You will not see the turbo function anymore if you are running newer versions of Opera.

Instead, you may see a checkbox titled “Use hardware acceleration when available.” Check this box if it is not already checked and you are good to go. Or, for better results, you can activate the built-in VPN function within the browser.

Make sure this toggle is turned on in opera

That’s it. You have successfully completed the steps to enable turbo in Opera.

Though not as popular as some of the other major browsers, Opera still gets a lot of use and offers a ton of great features.

Just like the bigger browsers, Opera has an incognito function (private browsing window) that allows you to surf the web privately and securely. When you turn on incognito mode in Opera, it ensures the websites you visit are not tracked or recorded.

Opera incognito mode is great for opening a browsing window that is private.

If you want to use the incognito mode in Opera, it only takes a couple of easy steps.

Turn On Incognito Mode in Opera

Launch the Opera browser from your desktop. It resembled a red “O” for Opera. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac or in your Start menu on Windows.

Make sure you are running the latest version of Opera.

Once the Opera browser is open select click on “Menu.” This is located on the top-left of your screen. In the drop down menu, highlight and select “New Private Window.”

Note: On a Mac you will select “File” in the menu instead of “Menu.”

If you prefer the shortcuts to access the same functions they are Ctrl+Shift+N for Windows and Command+Shift+N for Mac.

Click on file then new private window in the opera browser

Selecting the functions above will open up a private window and automatically activate the Opera incognito function.

Opera private browsing window

You can now freely browse the web and go where you want using incognito mode in Opera. When you are finished with your session and close all of the private browsing windows, Opera will not store history, data, cookies or cache.

For even more security and privacy you can also activate the built-in Opera VPN function.

Under “Fonts and Colors,” you can click on the font box and a drop down will appear where you can select and customize the default font in Firefox. Simply click on the font you want from the drop down to select and change the default font.

Click on the dropdown menu and select your new font

That’s it! You have successfully changed Firefox font. You can also customize Firefox font on all web pages.

Customize Fonts For All Web Pages

From where you are, you will see an “Advanced” button. Click on the Advanced button to open the settings popup box for Firefox fonts.

Click on the advanced button

Inside this popup box you will see a checkbox selection that is checked by default called “Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above.”

Uncheck this box so the font you have selected in Firefox will also display on all web pages you visit in the future.

Uncheck this box in firefox advanced settings
