A quiz is a great way to increase user engagement on your website. It is also a good way to market content, as answers can give you an idea of what you need to be doing. Creating a WordPress quiz is not a difficult task, you just need the right tools.

When you create a quiz in WordPress you are basically putting a form on your website that allows you to collect user input, calculate responses, and show results.

In this article, I will show you how to easily create a quiz in WordPress.

Why Create a Quiz on Your WordPress Site?

First and foremost, quizzes are fun and engaging, and they give you all sorts of useful feedback. Since they are very interactive, your website users will find them more rewarding than other types of forms.

You can use these forms for all sorts of data. Want to find out how to create great content? Ask your audience with a WordPress quiz.

There are several other ways WordPress quizzes can help you capture audience interest, gather data, and add interactive features to your site. These include:

  • Viral quizzes can help you gain more traffic from social media.
  • Educational quizzes to accompany any online courses you have built.
  • Quizzes to assess customer needs and recommend them solutions.
  • Quizzes that require users to sign up for your email newsletter.

With that being said, let’s take a look at how to create a quiz in WordPress.

What Should I Use to Create a WordPress Quiz

There are a lot of form options available to use that will generate great WordPress quizzes. However, most of them are paid version and I wanted to show you a great option that is free and can help you generate a lot more traffic.

I found a fantastic free plugin that will help you with creating a WordPress quiz. The plugin is called WP Quiz and it comes packed with a ton of great features.

The WP Quiz Plugin is the easiest way to create WordPress quizzes and create viral content that people are eager to share. You can create an unlimited number of quizzes using one of three different style quiz types:

  • Personality Quiz
  • Trivia Quiz
  • Flip Cards

Each quiz is responsive and will engage your site visitors and help provide you the information you want. Each Quiz type comes with its very own demo data for helping you with the initial setup. Importing demo data is as easy as clicking a button.

Each quiz type has options for adding text, videos, or images. You can use any combination of these to create a unique click that your visitors will instantly like. Don’t own the images you want to use? You just simply have to add the Image Credit because the option is built in and is extremely easy to use.

Create a Quiz in WordPress

To create a quiz in WordPress you will first want to install and activate the WP Quiz plugin

Install and activate the wp quiz plugin

Once the plugin has been installed and activated it is time to go ahead and create a WordPress quiz to engage your audience. If you want to view setting options real quick and view types of quizzes available, click on WP Quiz > Settings, and view the available options.

Note: There is also a Pro Version of the plugin.

However, if you are eager to go ahead and build your first quiz, click on WP Quiz > Add New Quiz to get started.

Click wp quiz then on add new quiz

You will see the three options available to you. For this example, we are going to create a trivia quiz. Click on the blue “Create Quiz” button located in the Trivia box to get started.

Click on the blue create quiz button

Here you will see the quiz creation page with all the info you need to start creating your quiz. You enter your quiz title then start adding content.

This is the add new quiz page

To add your first question click on the blue “Add Question” button. A dropdown will appear where you can add an image or video, add question text, add answer explanation, and even give a hint.

Add your quiz question info here

Now that you have added a question you need to add the answer/result to match the question. Click on the blue “Add Result” button and a dropdown will appear.

You will see all the result options you can plug in for the particular question. Go ahead and fill those in how you see fit.

Add quiz results here

Continue this process until you have input all the questions and results you want to include in this particular WordPress quiz.

Add Quiz Styling and Settings Options

Before you publish the quiz you can play around with the styling and settings of the quiz. This allows you to match the colors and layout of your current site, pick share buttons, add scrolling options, etc.

Play with stylings and settings before you publish your quiz

When you have completed all options and settings how you would like them, click on the “Publish” button to publish the quiz.

To add the quiz to a post or page you simply copy and paste the shortcode provided for that particular quiz.

That’s it! You can now go to the front end of your website and see the WordPress quiz you created live and ready to go.

Do you want to create quizzes on your WordPress website? Quizzes are a great way to engage with your audience. They can be used for educational purposes, as well, as a fun engagement opportunity for visitors. They also allow you to easily collect data on your website’s visitors, which can help you determine the direction of new content.

For example, you may be thinking about doing trivia or educational quizzes, but what about an opinion quiz? Asking your visitors opinion questions about your website is a great way to collect information and feedback. Today, I will demonstrate how to create and use quizzes in WordPress by using the HD Quiz plugin.

Why Add Quizzes to Your WordPress Website

Quizzes are a great addition to any website. You can create questions about any topic. They may include topics like math, science, books, television, video games, and so much more. People love to test their knowledge and compete with their friends and family. Even social media websites like Facebook use quizzes to engage with users.

An even more valuable part of quizzes is the ability to collect information on your visitors. For example, if you had books, television, and video games as your three topics for quizzes, and you saw more people taking the video game quizzes, you probably want to release more content related to video games. It’s a great way to effortlessly collect information and even feedback about your website from visitors.

How to Create and Use Quizzes in WordPress

Today, I will demonstrate how to create and use quizzes in WordPress by using the HD Quiz plugin. This plugin has very high reviews and is completely free to use. It can create an unlimited number of quizzes and has a wide array of tools to enhance the user experience. These include things like quiz timers, images as answers, tooltips for each question, and so much more.

Installing HD Quiz

Start with clicking on Plugins and selecting the Add New option on the left-hand admin panel.

Add New

Search for HD Quiz in the available search box. This will pull up additional plugins that you may find helpful.

Search for HD Quiz in the available search box.

Scroll down until you find the HD Quiz plugin and click on the “Install Now” button and activate the plugin for use.

Click on the "Install Now" button.

Creating Quizzes

Creating quizzes is very easy, but keep in mind that questions need to be created separately. You must create a quiz first to select questions that can be used within it.

On the left-hand admin panel, click on the Quizzes option. Here you can create as many quizzes as you want.

Click on the Quizzes option.

First, you need to name your quiz. Once it has been named, click on the “Add A New Quiz” button.

Click on the "Add A New Quiz" button.

The quiz is now created, but it can still be customized. Click on the quiz you just created. You will be able to change a lot of settings that include what the quiz will say when a user passes or fails the quiz, ability to share results with Twitter and Facebook, show the correct answers afterwards, add a quiz timer, and randomize the question and answer order. Once you are done, click on the “Update” button.

Click on the "Update" button.

Now it is time to create the questions for your quiz.

Creating Quiz Questions

Now that a quiz has been created, you must create the questions. You can use the questions you create in multiple quizzes if you want too. It is important to keep in mind how big of a question pool you want to create. For example, if you have a quiz on Baseball, you could create thousands of questions, but your quiz is limited to 10 questions. This will create a quiz with a high replay value because the quiz is likely to be different every time, but it will take a very large amount of time to create that many questions.

On the left-hand admin panel click on HD Quiz and select the Add New Question option.

Click on HD Quiz and select the Add New Question option.

When you are adding a new question, the title is the question itself. Add the question to the appropriate text box.

Insert question here.

Now it is time to create the answers to the question. You can create up to ten options for a single question, though most quizzes only use four or five options. Fill in as many options in the answers section as necessary.

Insert Answers Here.

You may also want to consider using images as answers. Check the Image Answers check box. You will be able to add a 400 x 400 image to each answer you create. The images will need to be uploaded to your media library to be used.

Check the Image Answers check box.

You must also select what the correct answer is. To do so, simply click on the bubble next to the correct answer.

Click on the bubble next to the correct answer.

Now it is time to select where the question will be used. Under the Publish box, you will see a Quizzes box. Here you can select the quizzes the question will appear in.

Select the quizzes the question will appear in.

Once you are done creating your question, click on the “Publish” button.

Click on the "Publish" button.

Repeat these steps and create as many questions as you want. Remember to make different question structures like true and false questions. Unless you assign a question to a quiz, the question will not be used, so remember to assign a quiz.

Adding the Quiz in WordPress

Now that your quiz is created and has questions to use, it is time to add it to your website. The plugin uses shortcodes to place the quiz on the website. You can find this shortcode next to your quiz name in the Quizzes section.

Simply paste the shortcode into a page, post, or text widget text editor.

Paste the Shortcode.

You can now view your quiz on your website.

View your quiz.

Congratulations, you have successfully added quizzes to your website. You can always add new quizzes and questions at any time. The more you add the more possibilities users will have.

Use Quizzes to Enhance Your Content

Quizzes have an infinite amount of possibilities and they can be used to enhance your content. For example, why not create category related quizzes? If you have a category, like Dogs, include quizzes about dogs. This can work for every category you have. Creating more question can help your quizzes have more replayability and can make the content last longer.

What kind of quizzes have you made? Do you like the HD Quiz plugin?

Are you looking for a great way to receive feedback or opinions from your community? If so, then you should try setting up polls and surveys on your website. Polls and surveys are a great way to create community engagement for any website. They also provide valuable information for you to analyze and plan new content around.

They are especially useful if you are unsure if a certain feature or topic is right for your website. For example, a movie review website might want to start doing video game reviews. Just because they are doing one kind of review, does not mean that their community will like another kind of review. Today, I will demonstrate how to use the Polldaddy plugin to create polls and surveys in WordPress.

Why Use Polls and Surveys in WordPress

New features and content are released regularly on all types of websites, platforms, and industries. Most major websites and companies will listen to feedback and create or improve features around that feedback. Every time you develop and implement a new feature or piece of content, you are taking a huge risk. There is no way to tell if a piece of content, feature, or service will be well received by a certain community. The biggest mistake is thinking that all communities like the same things.

You need to understand your own community. The only way you are able to do that is by engaging with your community. Many web developers will use social media to hint at features and see the responses. A better way is to directly ask your visitors if they like an idea or which idea they like better through a poll or survey on your website.

How to Use PollDaddy to Create Polls and Surveys in WordPress

Today, I will demonstrate how to use the Polldaddy plugin to create polls and surveys in WordPress. Polldaddy makes it very easy to create polls in WordPress, but you don’t actually create them on WordPress. All of your polls and surveys will be created on Polldaddy.com. It has many features to set up like start and close dates, how many answers there are, and has multiple color schemes to choose from. The plugin is very simple to set up, but you will need to set up your Polldaddy.com account to begin.

Installing Polldaddy

To begin, click on Plugins and select the Add New option on the left-hand admin panel.

Add New

Search for Polldaddy in the available search box. This will pull up additional plugins that you may find helpful.

Search for Polldaddy in the available search box.

Scroll down until you find the Polldaddy plugin and click the “Install Now” button and activate the plugin for use.

click the "Install Now" button

On the left-hand admin panel click on Settings and select the Polls option. This will pull up the main settings page.

click on Settings and select the Polls option.

You will only see a box for the API Key, but you won’t have one without an account.

Setting Up Your Polldaddy Account

You should see a warning message that says “Warning! The Polldaddy plugin must be linked to your Polldaddy.com account.” You need to visit the Polldaddy.com and sign up. You can use the free version and you will get all of the necessary features to create polls. You may find the paid version to be worth the cost, depending on your website’s needs.

Once you have signed up for your plan, check your email for a verification message. Confirm your email and sign back into Polldaddy.com. The website will have a slider on it. Change it to $0 to use the free version.

Adjust the slider appropriately

Your account set up is complete. Click on the down arrow on the top right of the page. Select the My Account option. You will now be on the My Account page. Scroll all the way to the bottom. You will see Polldaddy API Keys section. Enter your website’s address to generate the API Key. Copy the API key and paste it back into the appropriate box in WordPress.

Enter your website's address

Now that your account is linked, it’s time to start building polls and surveys for WordPress.

Creating Polls and Surveys

All of the polls surveys, quizzes, and ratings that you create, will be made on Polldaddy.com. When they are done, the website will generate a shortcode or URL for you to use.

To begin, click on the create new drop-down button. Select between a poll, survey, quiz, or rating. In my case, I will demonstrate polls, but they are all quite similar to set up.

Select what you want to create.

Enter the question of the poll. Now, enter the possible answers to the question. You may also want to check the box that allows the visitors to leave there own answer to the question. Always keep in mind what you are trying to get out of the question.

There is an Advanced PollSettings section under your answers. You can set up restrictions, how to block repeat voters, how to show results, whether to allow comments, and how long the poll will last for. Click on the “Create Poll” button.

Click on the "Create Poll" button.

Now it’s time to pick the design of the poll. There are a lot of options to choose, but I would recommend picking a color scheme that matches your themes. You also need to pick the size of it. Consider where you would place it when making that choice. You can see a preview of it at the bottom.

If you would like to change the language, click on the Language tab. Once you have made all of the choices, click on the “Save Style Settings” button.

click on the "Save Style Settings" button.

The poll is complete, but now you need to pick the method of displaying it. Click on the WordPress tab to see the options. You will have an option for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Copy the appropriate option. I will be using the WordPress.org option. Go to the page, post, or sidebar that you would like to insert the poll on to. Paste the URL into the visual editor. Click on the “Save” or “Update” button to have it go live.

Your poll will appear in the editor.

Congratulations, you have successfully created a poll for WordPress using Polldaddy.com. You will find that surveys and other options are created and inserted into WordPress in the same way. Always remember that you can change the poll at any time, but you will lose the results if you do.

Get Your Visitors’ Opinion and Feedback

Your visitors are the reason your website is or will become successful. You need to listen to all of their opinions and feedback when you are considering a change. For example, if you made a design change, create a poll asking visitors if they like it better. Design choices, features, content, services, and anything else can only be considered successful if your community likes it.

Always remember, you cannot please everyone, all of the time. Also, remember that many people are not honest when they answer a poll. For example, if you showed a picture of a blue pen and asked if it was blue or black, you would definitely see a percentage of visitors pick black. You should always keep in mind your visitors because without them your website is pointless.

How many polls have you created? Have you found Polldaddy.com to be easy to use?
